Bankroll Control Approaches For Beginners Wanting To Move To High Stakes Poker

By Matt Nachman

Building a bankroll with the right chip stack management strategy are critical to your success as a poker player. A vital key in any successful poker career or hobby is to play only within your limits. A good hold em chip stack management strategy is essential to staying within those limits.

If you deposit cash in a web-based poker room, you will notice that the minimum deposit is between $10 and $20. If you are serious about improving your game and upping your returns on investment, be wise about the decisions you make.

The very fact is, they have all paid their dues one way or another. You can build up your chip stack progressively and then move up to the higher level buy-ins when you wish. This is especially true when you buy into tournaments with more than 5% of you chip stack. If you're ready, go forward and transfer up a level.

You should consider two factors before doing so. Push beyond your limits now and then to test yourself. Maximum is most often 100 times the Big Blind. At $1/2 level, your max buy-in would be $200, or 2 times 100.

Anything lower than that will increase your chances of losing your entire bankroll in one session. If you have a $20 chip stack and play $5 SNG's, you will be finished after no more than four non-cashing tournaments (like a foul run of playing cards). It may be thought of as maintaining some sort of plan B.

If that happens to you often, you are very seemingly taking part in at too excessive a limit level. It could be wise for you to change and transfer down to the lower limit tables. You'll leave ahead of the game and your bankroll will be that much bigger for next time. It's a good idea to have a more conservative approach to building a bankroll and your chip stack management strategy.

The success of your poker game will be dependent on well you manage you bankroll. Should you do that each day out, you'll acquire expertise and grow your funds gradually until you have got enough to get in the high stakes.
