3D Animation VS 2D Animation - An Overview

By Cody Landon

A quick and speedy demonstration of a string of images of 2D or 3D artwork so as to create an illusion of motion can be understood as animation. The skill of building moving objects with the usage of computers is known as computer animation and is also sometimes referred to as computer-generated imagery or computer-generated imaging (CGI). A motion picture is one of the forms of presenting animation, as is also a video program and a number of other forms of presenting animation exist. The cartoons that one watches on television are also an example of animation. Animated objects can be turned and moved around just like real objects.

This article highlights some points of difference between 2D and 3D animation. For starters, 2D animation (hand drawn) happens on a 2 dimensional platform and hence, images are flat and only one angle can be seen. 3D animation (CGI) happens on a 3 dimensional platform and therefore images have depth and numerous perspectives similar to real life can be seen.

In general, 2D animation calls for drawing or movement on, say, a flat surface or in the horizontal and vertical (X and Y) planes respectively. On the other hand, 3D includes modeling, that is to say, creating images in 3-dimensions using computer software. 3D gives the image the ?Z? dimension and this third dimension permits rotation of the image.

Additionally, 2D and 3D animation can be differentiated by comparing them to a painting and a sculpture respectively. The difference can also be seen by understanding that since 3D animation offers a depth perspective, we can not only see a rectangle (2 dimensional figure) but also a cube, which is a 3 dimensional figure.

Also, there is a difference between 2D and 3D animation with reference to the usage of tools to build 2D and 3D images, the effort involved, the cost encountered and the quality of the final product. 2D animation is a hands-on course of action and requires hand-drawing hundreds to thousands of individual frames. These are then transferred to clear plastic cels, hand-painted, and then filmed in a series over a painted background image. The amount of time, labor, and tools involved in this entire process can be incredible. In contrast, in case of 3D computer animation, the need for many of the additional tools required to create an animation is minimized and also the time and effort involved is cut down to a great extent. In a nut shell it can be said that basically 2D and 3D animations mean the dimension in which the animation is crafted and that 3D animation makes objects or images look more realistic when compared to 2D animation.

The advantages of 3D animation: You might have wondered why we should go after the 3D animation, when the whole process itself takes a number of stages and appears to be very complex. Apart from the complexities involved, it does offer a lot of advantages. Once the modeling process is completed, the 3D software allows very flexible control over the scene and animation. You can rotate the model in any angle you want (unlike 2D). 3D animation software also gives a rich collection of tools that aid the process of modeling and animation. You can choose from a wide variety of modeling techniques based on your requirement. Lighting and camera setup is the exact replica of a real world movie shooting environment. Apart from all these, the ultra realism offered by the 3D rendered scenes makes 3D graphics the best solution for the emerging animation industry.

3D animation in featured films

By Adrian Taylor

I was always fascinated with the computer-generated animation that enables creation of characters in the animated and feature films, and the feature films are the most appreciated today.

Sensational effects that teams of professionals and computer farms create are so photorealistic that you really believe that you are watching a real, live stage and not artificial compound scrapped of functions and graphics grown in a 3D animation studio.

I'm fascinated with the world of imagination produced by Peter Jackson and George Lucas, not because they are the most famous but because they really invest in their work in the right way. Their teams of professionals are excellent specialist who can raise the atmosphere and the entire feeling of the whole project. Plain consumer is not interested in art or craft but in the finished scene and how realistic it is. For me, the biggest pleasure is to see slow motion techniques in SF movies, the one you are wondering is that vehicle real or computer processed.

However, I don't believe in the complete exclusion of the real world or in the possibility of computers that can completely replace real, living actors. Although it is possible to create, I truly believe that modeling the entire thing, 100% animated character is a feature of cartoon rather than full-blooded blockbuster. There is just not enough satisfactory for me personally.

The greatest use and the right level of experience 3D animation reach in a design environment of online and PC video games, but it is not an issue about which I want to talk too much. The environment and facial features are in the most cases too plastic and my avatar without color, taste and smell, like one in Second Life and Kaneva is everything but pleasant. Add certain glitches of the network and you have featured nervous breakdown.

Motion capture and crowd simulation are the most widely used 3D animation techniques in the world of film, especially because they are very cost-effective. Once upon a time movie directors needed a whole army of extra statists for the mass scenes and now all they need is a bunch of thirty blokes, a team of computer geeks and a good computer program.

Motion capture, on the other hand, is an excellent 3D technique that puts an actor directly into the artificially created space. Around him you can design anything you like, or you can use his own moves to create complex scenes where actor is completely excluded.

It is interesting that with a good virtual program such as Virtools, you can program the functions, space and rotating camera, and with the help of magnetic markers or LEDs you can project any range of motion, even complex, in your computer and get the skeleton 3D animations for your imaginary world.

Xbox 360 Faults - The Problems And Errors Invoked By Them

By Timothy Anderson

With every major revision of the games console, there are always issues. As such, there are always newer and newer iterations of such devices to in ensure that they are not only providing the most power available in our generation for the cheapest price, but also to prevent issues that might arise in the console. There are three major consoles on sale, the Wii, Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 is known for its less-than-stellar reliability history and in some cases, this history should be well known for the customer to be fully aware of what they're getting into. While Microsoft are onto their later iterations, the Xbox 360 is in its 2nd primary iteration, the 'Slim'. This is effectively a fully revised Xbox 360 that provides the same power, but with an entirely new structure. However, older models still suffer from the same problems and when purchasing second hand or just an older model in general, you should be aware of Xbox 360 faults.

Red Ring Of Death

Perhaps the most notorious of the Xbox 360's faults it the Red Ring of Death (RROD). This is named as such because when a serious problem strikes the console, three of the four green LEDs become red, almost creating a full red circle. While the full circle is less serious, the third-quarter circle represents a general hardware failure. This essentially means a part of the console is bust and that it will need replacing or fixing. Unfortunately, it's not that simple to fix and many consoles have been broken in amateur attempts to do so.

There are many theories as to why the Xbox 360s break, but due to the nature of the problems, Microsoft doesn't full open it up to the public. Inspections on the hardware suggest overheating problems. The soldering that connects many of the pieces have been thought to be insufficient to hold the current or temperature and eventually break. With newer and newer components, the heat and electrical consumption issues have been reduced as the efficiency has been improved.

Disc Scratching

There were some issues with the disc tray. Discs became victim to being scratched while inside the machine and when removed, they would have uniform scratches across the majority of the disc, meaning it was unusable. The uniform nature of these scratches suggest it was a piece of the tray or something else pressed against the disc. The source of the problems is somewhat subjective. In studies, it was proven that discs could indeed be scratched during the course of normal use through everyday household vibrations. However, Microsoft insists its user error, such as moving the console while it's on and the disc is spinning, which the manual warns against.

E74 System Error

This is an error in which the lower-right of the ring flashes red. The E74 System Error is caused by the video, when there's damage to the hardware. While it is included under the warranty, it can strike in many cases, but gives the user early warning signs, such as video artifacts. Essentially, the video quality will degrade severely and this should be enough warning that the E74 error is about to occur.
