How Typing Games Can Help Improve Your Typing Skills

By Samantha Rutherford

There is no debate that a touch system is the best if one needs to type with speed. Not so long ago the only way one could ensure that all letters of the alphabet would be included while learning to type using the touch method was to type the sentence "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog". To type this repeatedly every single day was a guarantee that it would increase one's speed - surely a boring thing to do and there have been cases where students gave up learning to type. But today innovators have come out with free typing games that challenge one's skills to type quickly and accurately.

One can find several types of typing games online. The notion and the goal is to improve one's skills to type as quickly and as accurately as possible. They tend to be quite addictive, but this is after all an advantage, as the more a player plays, the more he will learn.

To put these types of games into perspective we can mention some of the most popular ones. The KeyMan game is one of these. While one is playing, he will be typing in the letters that are requested by the game. As a result the Key Man will move through a maze. The score will be higher the more one types rapidly and without errors.

There are other popular games such as the Bubbles Typing Game and the Key bricks game. They are all aimed at having fun and at the same time trying to increase one's speed to type.

At the initial stages one tends to get disappointed as the test results that are shown are not something to write home about. But with constant practice the results must show improvement. Ultimately, those that get addicted to these games would be the lucky ones as after all, unless one gets addicted to them, one cannot improve.

Since they are available for free they are a boon to those who want to put their skills to test without having to pay anything. All that is needed is a computer and time to play. The more time one has the faster will his skills improve.

The graphics may be quite simple, but the main aim is always to type while trying to reach the game's goal, or improve one's past high score. Many players do not care about the graphics as they actually play to improve their skills to type as rapidly and as accurately as possible. Many have in fact improved a great deal thanks to them. Another key aspect is that they can be played as a single player or in a multi player mode. In fact one can compete against other players so as to see who is the best.

Many are formulated in such a way that each stage or phase is a lesson. Hence a game can basically be divided into interactive and virtual lessons. Some even allow one to print a certificate of completion when tests are done. They are also divided into levels so as to cater for varying speeds and players.
