The Real Upshot Of Shooting And Other Aggressive Video Games

By Shamcey De Guzman

Violent-laden video games, which include those that belong to the ego-shooter or first-person shooter genre - are always under close scrutiny by parents and advocacy groups who are worried about the ill-effects of such games on growing kids and teenagers. Majority of the researches and studies about this phenomenon indicate the need for us to focus more on the personality of the player instead on the general content of these video games.

First-person Shooters and other Games and Violent Characteristics

There is no proof that your child would turn into a psychopath or a killer whenever he or she will be hooked on playing video games, specifically those that are tremendously themed with violence and gory stories. Nevertheless, psychiatrists stated that parents should watch out for their child's behavior, and if they become moody, anxious and rebellious, then they should take significant interventions and decrease the time used by their children in playing their preferred shooting game.

The psychological impact of video games is rather a complex concern, and there are lots of apprehensions and confusion on the true effects of the brutally-themed video games on the psychological and rational idea of growing teens and kids. We do not have to decide whether first-person games are good or bad. There are several glitches that are needed to be known in studying the real impact of the type of video games on the personality and behavior and an individual. For example, a person with a specific perspective towards the game may elicit signs of ill-effects when playing it.

Antagonistic Tendencies of Video Game Fanatics

A team of psychologists recently noted a slight increase in the hostile tendencies of their study group and such hostile tendencies were linked to specific personality traits. The experiment showed that video players who tend to manifest hostile behavior were those who have abnormally high levels of neuroticism and excessively low levels of conscientiousness and agreeableness. The research divided the participants into 2 groups - one group played video games with violent theme and the other group played video games with non-violent theme.

With regards to the study's proponents, the hostile tendencies are greatly influenced by the level of competition of the game, and not by its brutal contents. Regardless of the themes of the video game, games that are highly aggressive are possible to trigger aggressive responses from players.

Nowadays, video gaming is continuing to flourish. Some advocate groups are insisting of the possibility of association between aggression and the level of violent contents of video games. Nonetheless, there are also studies that did not advocate the claim. In the midst of these conflicting factors, parents and advocate groups should be more aware in observing and checking their kids with regards to the likely ill-effects of video games that have a great violent content.
