Break Free From The Humdrum Of Muggle Life With Harry Potter On Wii

By Andrew Strauss Laeddis

Indubitably, the Harry Potter franchise has achieved worldwide commercial success. It is also one of those few fantasy novels which achieved worldwide popularity not only for its literary genius but for the deep imprint it has left in both human culture and society. Since the first book was released in 1997, a plethora of Harry Potter merchandises have been rolled out to eagerly awaiting fans. Fans, regardless of age and gender, buy more than just the books and the video discs. They also purchase apparel, trinkets, games and plush toys. Even the toymaker Lego, rolled out kits influenced by characters and settings found in the novel and film.

No merchandise is as absorbing as the Harry Potter videogames though. Electronic Arts have produced several games based on the franchise, the first of which was released in 2001. The video games were released to coincide with the films and are playable on different games consoles.

When Harry Potter Wii became available, fans all over the world rejoiced. The excitement was largely because playing the game on the Wii platform is very engaging. The nunchuck and the console remote will become a makeshift wand and broom depending on the quest. The incorporation of body movement and hand gestures adds another dimension of fun, which is otherwise not present in its point-and-click counterparts.

English software company, Traveller's Tales also rolled out an equally enjoyable Harry Potter Lego Game. Gamers all over the world loved the transformation of the characters and the entire Harry Potter world into Lego models. It has received generally positive reviews, and was even called one of the best Harry Potter games ever. Like the Harry Potter Wii, this game is also available in other gaming platforms.

A sequel to the Harry Potter Lego Game is said to be in the works. To fans still mulling over the loss of their favorite film franchise with the release of final chapter a few months ago, now have a reason to smile. These very interactive games are the next best thing to re-experiencing the magic of Harry Potter and Hogwarts. Just like the novel and film adaptation before it, Harry Potter Wii and the Harry Potter Lego game will go down in history as well-loved gaming classics.
