Can You Make A Top Video Game On A Budget

By Sakis Mavromatis

You might be surprised to discover that the top computer games of today command a budget that would put an average Hollywood movie to shame but when you think about the revenue that these games bring in you can kind of understand it.

The production teams are getting larger and larger and with the improvements in graphics the top games involve much more than a full on joystick thrashing.

Game developers these days use cut scenes in their games in order to immerse the player into the game immediately; these cut scenes are just like a movie opening. So how can a small game development company compete with the big boys like Blizzard or Activision?

Finding a niche and getting people hooked is the only real way that a small company could compete with the bigger boys. On Facebook alone there are a number of games that people are playing continuously where they will pretend to be a gangster or they will run their own farm. With many of these games having been created on a limited budget, it is great to see how successful they have become and how profitable.

You could always start with the mobile phone market in terms of creating a video game on a tight budget; if you stick to the Android platform then you will not be expected to pay a huge licensing fee as you would if you targeted Apple for example. Of course it's not like you could start knocking out games from your bedroom and expect them to be an instant success of can you?

In theory it is possible because all you need really is a good idea and a decent idea of how to make flash games and then you could be the maker of a game that goes down in history just like Tetris.
