NHL 2011 Strategy And Helpful Info For Beginners

By Dan Rivalspot

I'm sure any gamer would recommend a professionally written NHL 11 strategy guide but here are a few basic tips to help you get through the onslaught of menu options presented to you. This years version of the NHL franchise is released on the Xbox 360 and also the PlayStation three.

After starting the game you will quickly notice that there are many different menu options to choose from. Let's start with the most obvious of the choices, select "First Time?" from the menu. From here you will be able to select your team name. You may put in whatever you want. You will also be given several packs of cards. This mode will carry you on through your roster selection and a few other options before you will finally begin playing your first season.

Pay close attention to your team's chemistry when assigning players to their positions. Take the time to make sure they all match up and that you do not have a goalie playing offense or something like that. Some of the other factors that positively affect chemistry are putting players from the same former teams or hometowns on the same lines.

You can play the created team in tournament, season, or exhibition games by selecting the hockey ultimate team option. These can be played online against live opponents, or solo against the AI if you prefer. Whichever mode you choose grants you items like EA pucks and other collectible items like trophies. As you play more and more with the custom team, it will level up and ability parameters may be increased. The game seems to level up computer opponents accordingly so the difficulty will progress as you level. Before upgrading teammates it is important to remember to renew their contracts for a long time so that they stay at the current sixty rating pay instead of an eighty for instance.

My Collection is an option that will expand as you unlock new items during games. These can include jerseys, trophies and even staff members. This section is basically for visual aesthetics only and serves no functional purpose.

There is an auction system set up for players to sell or buy items with other people. You can search for specific items and all of these will have a buy now price along with a timer that displays how long is left on the auction. This is where you will spend those pucks you have been earning so diligently. There are several things to be found here including the items for the collection room, contracts for players and cards. If you win a card it will appear in the watch list of the trade menu, and it can then be sent to a friend or applied to your collection.

Tournaments for collectible cups like the illustrious Stanley Cup take place in the battle for the cup section. Team selection can be entered manually or there is also a random option. There will now be options to select from regarding the length of the cup series. There is knockout, which is a win or go home situation, best of three, five and seven, which are self explanatory. There are other things that can be modified here as well such as period length, penalty status and more.

If you prefer to take things from more of a micro management perspective, then select the be a GM mode. This will allow you to manage aspects of your team in detail, allowing you to direct your team's NHL 11 strategy. Teams can be controlled for a maximum of twenty five seasons. This mode has options to manage just like all the other modes do. The options include opponent difficulty and period lengths. This is where you will select whether or not to participate in a a fantasy draft as well.
