The Strategy Game of Go

By Tania Bond

The game of Go is fun two player board game that people of any age can enjoy. It's been around for over 3,000 years, but has recently seen a surge in popularity in the western world. This is because many people are now discovering the benefits of playing the game. Go helps people develop both creative and logical abilities and increases your ability to focus your concentration. Read on to learn more about why so many people are learning to play and find out more about what Go is.

In China, where Go was invented, it is called 'weiqi'. It is also known by other names, 'igo' in Japan and 'baduk' in Korea. In the last century it was introduced to the rest of the world through Japan. The name 'Go' came from the Japanese 'igo' which means 'surrounding game'. There are many reasons why the game is very fashionable at the moment. We'll talk about some of the main ones here.

Go is fun for players of all skill levels and age groups: Even if you only just learned to play the game, you can still enjoy it. The handicap system even means that you can play with a more experienced player and both of you will have a challenging and enjoyable game. You don't need to learn everything at once, but as you improve, you will find the depth of the game continues to challenge you. The best way to start is to get a friend to play with you, so you can both learn together. But even if you don't have any friends who want to play with you, you can still play on the web or find a local Go club in your city.

Go exercises and improves your ability to focus and remember things. Research has shown that playing Go improves brain function for people of all age groups. The game helps prevent memory loss in older people and improves young peoples' ability to learn and do well at school. No matter what your age is, playing regularly can help you. Most board games require strong problem solving and logical skills, but not so much creativity. Go is different. When players in Japan had their brains scanned as part of a study, it was discovered that playing the game required both sides of the brain and that it strengthens creativity as well as logic.

Go helps you master strategic thinking: Go is more strategically challenging than other games because players are free to move almost wherever they want. Whether your plans are good or not is decided during the game, not by some arbitrary rules. Many people in the business world and in the military have found that it is a great way to learn strategy that can be applied to their work. Despite this, it is fairly easy to learn because of its visual nature. Some people are attracted to the game because it's one of the last games where even a child who has played for awhile can beat the best computer programs in the world.

This article only scratches the surface of the game of Go, but I encourage you to learn more. Now that you know what Go is, tell a friend about it and play some games together. It's easy to get started and I promise you that you'll be glad you did. Learning how to play has changed many people's lives for the better and I recommend it to everyone. Good luck!
