Let Your Child Play Kids Games Online Safely

By Moglori Sparia

Kids love to play kids games online and it's a fun way to keep them busy with something. That doesn't mean it's without glitches though. Often, kids who are enjoying some internet time will click on something and end up on a site that they weren't meant to see.

There are a few things parents can do to make sure that their children stay safe while on the computer. It's important to keep an eye on kids, which is why they should have the computer out in a high traffic room. Don't let them work in their rooms, since that allows them to access other sites without you knowing it, or chats with people where you can't monitor things.

First, for little kids, look into a kid's browser. These take over the entire screen and will allow children to see only pre-approved websites. You can later add more advanced websites as your child grows, but the browser can help prevent them from accidentally getting into another site that is inappropriate.

Skip sites that allow anyone to chat with anyone. These can be havens for pedophiles. There are plenty of games for kids where interaction isn't an option so you can easily let them play without fear. Make sure they understand that you never know who you're really talking to online.

There are programs available that can monitor all the activities on a computer and tell you which sites have been seen, even if the history is erased. These are particularly useful with older kids, so you can check on them. You can also get programs that will simply block any suspicious sites as well as those that you specifically block.

Make sure you set up a joint email account so you know exactly what your kids are signing up for and who they are talking to. They shouldn't be allowed to have a private account until they are old enough to be responsible, which will depend on the child.

Talking to kids should not be underestimated. They need to understand that it can be very dangerous to give out personal information to strangers, even online. Names, addresses, phone numbers, etc. Can all be used against them. It's very important that children understand how to stay safe online, as well as in real life.

Your children can play kids games online and be perfectly safe, but you do need to remember that there are potential dangers out there. Keep an eye on what they're doing.
